Reconciliation Statement

03/05/2023

On 29 May 2023 a joint sitting of all Western Australian courts and tribunals will be held to mark the launch of the Western Australian Courts and Tribunals Reconciliation Statement.

For the first time in the State's history, the joint sitting will comprise the heads of jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the District Court of Western Australia, the Family Court of Western Australia, the Childrens Court of Western Australia, the Magistrates Court of Western Australia, the Coroners Court of Western Australia and the State Administrative Tribunal.

The Reconciliation Statement marks an important formal acknowledgement by the courts and tribunals of Western Australia of the history of the relationship between the justice system and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Western Australia and the courts and tribunals' commitment to access to justice and ensuring that Western Australian courts and tribunals are culturally sensitive and culturally safe.

The sitting will commence at 9:00 am on 29 May 2023 in Court 42 of the David Malcolm Justice Centre.

The sitting will also be livestreamed to all regional courts and a link made available on the Family Court of Western Australia website.
