Guidelines for Independent Children's Lawyers
The Guidelines for Independent Children's Lawyers are intended to help Independent Children's Lawyers (ICLs) to carry out their role to represent and promote the best interests of a child in family court proceedings.
The Guidelines are also intended to provide practitioners, parties, children and others with information on the role of an Independent Children's Lawyer.
The Guidelines document is a public document which is endorsed by the Chief Justice of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and the Chief Judge of the Family Court of Western Australia. The Guidelines are made available by the legal aid commissions of the Australian states and territories which fund the work of the ICLs. In addition, the Guidelines will be a resource for training ICLs.
