The "Guidelines for Independent Children's Lawyers" document (see download below) is intended to provide guidance to the Independent Children's Lawyer (ICL) in fulfilling his/her role.
The Guidelines are also intended to provide practitioners, parties, children and other people in contact with the family court, with information about the courts' general expectations of ICLs.
The Guidelines document is a public document which is endorsed by the Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia, the Chief Judge of the Family Court of Western Australia and the Chief Judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia. The Guidelines are made available by the legal aid commissions of the Australian states and terrtories which fund the work of the ICLs. In addition, the Guidelines will be used for training of ICLs.
