The Role of the Client Administration Officer

A Client Administration Officer can assist you if you require information about Court procedure in relation to parenting cases only.  The role of the Client Administration Officer is solely administrative and not involved with determining the outcome of any proceedings.

When to Contact your Client Administration Officer

At the first court event, you will be given a business card with your Client Administration Officer’s contact details.  If you do not have their card, you can contact the Family Court call centre on 9224 8399 to find out your allocated Client Administration Officer.

You can contact your Client Administration Officer if you have a procedural query, including the following:

The Client Administration Officer is not a compliance officer and is not able to enforce parenting orders or orders for filing of documents.

Requesting a Re-listing

A letter requesting a re-listing of your child related proceedings matter should be addressed to the Principal Registrar and marked for the attention of your Client Administration Officer.

Your letter must include:

Any correspondence to the Court (including email) must be copied to the other party, their solicitor and the independent children’s lawyer, where appointed, in compliance with paragraph 55 of the Case Management Guidelines.  Please note that evidence cannot be submitted to the Court by way of letter or email.

Submitting Documents to the Court

A cover letter should be included with any documents you submit to the Court in relation to child related proceedings.  This letter should be addressed to the Principal Registrar and marked for the attention of your Client Administration Officer.

You should include your contact details in the event that the Client Administration Officer needs to telephone you about the documents.  Your cover letter must indicate that a copy is being sent to the other party or their solicitor and the independent children’s lawyer, where appointed, in compliance with paragraph 39 of the Case Management Guidelines.

The Client Administration Officer will refer your documents to the presiding Judicial Officer if permission has not already been given for the filing of the documents.  The Client Administration Officer will contact you either by telephone or mail to advise you of the presiding Judicial Officer’s directions.

Please note there may be a delay in seeking permission where a Judicial Officer is unavailable due to Court commitments and other hearings.

Referrals to the Family Consultant

 The Client Administration Officer will assess your call or request and may, where appropriate, refer your matter to the Family Consultant.

Given the nature of the workload of each Family Consultant there may be some delay between the referral of your request and contact from the Family Court Counselling and Consultancy Service in relation to such request.  Your patience is appreciated in this regard.
